Chrome handles the download natively and Android files it into your Gallery on its own. There is no APK to sideload and no app to install.

Android handles this more automatically than iOS. Chrome downloads the file, the system indexes it, and the video appears in Gallery without any extra step. This page covers where files actually land, what to do when the scanner misses one, and why the APKs advertised for this task are worth avoiding.
In the X app, tap the post so it opens on its own screen, then tap the share icon beneath the video and choose Copy link. Some launchers show a system share sheet instead, where Copy is usually the first option.
Return to this page in Chrome and tap the Paste button inside the field, or long-press the field and choose Paste.
The highest is preselected. Pick a lower rung if you are on mobile data and want to keep the transfer small.
A notification confirms the transfer. Tap it to open the file, or find it later in Downloads or your Gallery.
Chrome writes to Internal storage > Download. You can reach it from the Files app, from Chrome's own downloads list, or from the notification that appears when the transfer finishes.
Android then runs its media scanner across new files. When it recognises a video it indexes it, which is what makes the clip show up in Gallery, Google Photos, and any other app that reads the media library.
That indexing normally happens within a few seconds. It is why Android needs no equivalent of the extra Save Video step that iPhone requires.
Occasionally the scanner misses a file. The download succeeded; only the index is stale.
Open the Files app, navigate to Download, and tap the video once. That usually triggers a rescan. Restarting the phone always does. The file is on the device either way, and plays fine from Files regardless.
Chrome > Settings > Downloads lets you pick a different location. The same screen has an Ask where to save files toggle, which prompts for a destination each time. That is useful when saving several videos into a specific folder rather than sorting them afterwards.
Downloads still default to internal storage even when an SD card is present, because Android restricts app write access to removable media. If internal space is tight, move the file afterwards with the Files app, or set Chrome's download location to the card explicitly.
The most common cause on Android, and the failure is often quiet. Check Settings > Storage before retrying. Choosing a lower resolution is the fastest workaround: a 360p copy of a two-minute video is roughly a tenth the size of the 1080p one.
Several manufacturers apply aggressive background restrictions, and Chrome can be suspended when you switch away from it mid-download. For a large file, keep the browser in the foreground until the notification shows the transfer complete.
If this happens repeatedly, exempting Chrome from battery optimisation in Settings > Apps > Chrome > Battery resolves it.
Moving between Wi-Fi and mobile data interrupts an in-progress download, and a partial file is the usual result. Staying on one network until the transfer completes avoids it. Chrome's downloads list offers a retry on failed items.
Clearing Chrome's cache, or trying in a private tab, resolves most persistent cases. If the file still will not save, another browser is a quick test: Samsung Internet, Firefox and Edge all use their own download managers.
Every major Android browser handles this the same way, because each has its own download manager and Android's media scanner treats the result identically. Only the notification style and default folder differ slightly.
Search for this task and you will find APK downloads offering an "official app". They are worth avoiding, and the reason is specific rather than general caution.
An APK installed from outside the Play Store bypasses Google's scanning entirely. Sideloaded applications advertised as companions to popular web tools are a well-documented malware distribution route on Android, precisely because the promise is plausible and the install is one tap.
The permissions are the tell. Saving a public video requires network access and the ability to write a file. An APK for this task that requests contacts, SMS, call logs, accessibility services or device administrator rights is asking for capabilities the task cannot use. Accessibility services in particular can read everything on screen and simulate taps, which is why they are a common target.
Chrome downloads files natively. There is nothing an APK adds to this process except exposure.
Apps from the Play Store are scanned and safer than sideloaded ones, but most are wrappers around the same public data this site uses, funded by advertising and in-app purchases. Several request photo library access, which a browser does not need for this.
This site can be installed as a web app from Chrome's menu. It gets an icon, opens full screen with no browser chrome, keeps the written pages available offline, and takes roughly 100 KB. It requests no device permissions, because it needs none, and it updates the moment you open it rather than waiting on a store review.
Once the file is in Downloads, Android's share sheet moves it anywhere: into a messaging app, a cloud drive, or a different folder via the Files app.
For videos you intend to post elsewhere, letting the media scanner index the file first is worth doing. Apps that read from the gallery rather than the file system will not see an unindexed file, which is occasionally why a freshly downloaded video does not appear in another app's picker.
Worth a thought on a metered connection. A 30-second clip at 720p is roughly 6 to 9 MB; the same clip at 1080p is 15 to 22 MB. A two-minute video at the highest resolution can reach 90 MB.
Stepping down one resolution rung typically cuts the transfer to a third. On a phone screen the visible difference is small, and the HD page covers when the highest rung is genuinely worth it.
These are platform limits, not Android ones. No app or APK works around them.
